Omaha Hi/Lo Rules

Omaha Hi/Lo is a split-pot poker game that is played in exactly the same way as Omaha. One difference is the requirements of high and low opponents. In Omaha, the best high player takes the entire pot, and in Omaha Hi/Lo, the best high player wins the entire pot if no hand qualifies as a low card. It is usually played by eight to nine players at a table.

Omaha Hi/Lo uses the “Aces to 5” or “California” system to rank the low cards. Straights and flushes don’t count towards a hand, and Aces are always low when reading low hands, so the best hands are “wheels”: 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace.

  • Limit Omaha Hi/Lo – Specific betting limit applied in each game and on each round of betting.
  • Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo – Bets are limited to the amount of chips in the pot.
  • No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo – A player can bet all of the chips he has available.
  • Mixed Omaha Hi/Lo – The game alternates between rounds of Limit and Pot-Limit.
